GARDEN SAFARI 15TH May 2010

The Garden Safari held in May was a great success, with 84 programmes being sold, raising £420.00 for the Hollins Green Scout Group building fund. Thanks to the kindness and hard work of garden owners the ten gardens were at their peak and were a pleasure to wander around. Visitors were surprised by the variety of gardens, all different in size and design, and commented on how delightful they all were. Depending on their starting point, visitors used the programme and map to create their own self guided route around gardens and events, taking in the beauty of the rural area as they went.

The day turned out to be a lovely community event with visitors meeting and chatting to people they hadn’t seen for a long time. There was also a steady flow of visitors to the Art exhibition, put on by Rachelle’s art class. Many visitors made sure they had time to take lunch at Rixton Methodist Church and were not disappointed with the home-made fayre, with some lunching to the cheerful tunes of the Cadishead Brass Band, who kindly slotted in a brief visit during their busy schedule. Old photographs and archives were brought out for visitors to enjoy with tea and biscuits at Glazebrook Church and St. Helen’s Church. Tom’s Tuck Shop also went down a treat, raising even more money for Scouts.

Thank You from me, on behalf of Scouts, to all who opened their gardens to the public and to all who made this such a pleasant and memorable day. Thanks to local resident Dave, images of the event can be found...... HERE

I have received many requests for another Garden Safari next year - so if interested put Saturday 21st May in your diary now. One or two of this year’s gardens will be open once again along with several new ones. More details will follow in the next editions of the newsletter.

Anyone wishing to open their garden up to share with others can notify me by email on mandy@hamiltondavies.org.uk or by phoning 01971 580113 or 0161 222 4003. Mandy
