St. Helen’s Church hosted an enlightening talk by Pete Thomas and Neil Drum on Irlam and Cadishead and the surrounding districts part in World War 2. Over 70 people and several veterans attended. Following the publication of their first book on World War 1 entitled ‘A District At War’, the authors are now appealing for information from residents and local veterans who lived through the Second World War and who would be willing to help with any information, photographs or other material. As well as stories from local servicemen and women, events occurring in the district and life on the ‘Home Front’ will be covered. They have already written over 500 pages and have collected 100’s of photographs. Please contact the authors on localresearch@live.co.uk or 07779 087413.
